Hope was born from Love on Christmas Day

Hope was born from Love on Christmas Day

The Christmas season is in full swing for many of us. We have our trees decorated with festive lights and ornaments while bright-colored stockings have been hung from our fireplace mantles. All in hopeful anticipation for a visit from the red-suite, round belly, jolly old man. (By the way, that’s for those who still believe in good old Santa Claus.) The malls are alive, crackling with the noise of animated shoppers busy looking for that perfect gift. I personally try to avoid the malls, as best I can. I figure I’m less likely to get trampled in a “buy one

Gratefully accepting the nomination for the 2017 Liebster award

Gratefully accepting the nomination for the 2017 Liebster award

I have discovered in the one plus year that I have been blogging that the rewards to doing something I love can be endless. One of such rewards include the nomination for the Liebster Award.  This is an award that recognizes and honors new bloggers who have 200 or less followers on their blog site.  This award not only brings recognition for hard work but also provides a great way to connect with others in the blogging world. TO MY NOMINATOR I would like to say a BIG thank you to Cassie Wilson over at http://cassielwilson.com for nominating me and paying

Self care – Me time for the weary mom

Self care – Me time for the weary mom

Finally!! A free moment to sit and catch your breath. It has been a chaotic morning.  Actually, come to think of it, so has many of your mornings.  It didn’t help that you slept through the alarm today.  If  only you had made the kids’ lunch before going to bed like you wanted to.  But then if you had, you wouldn’t have had time to fold that extra load of laundry.  And you wouldn’t have been able to put the finishing touches on hubby’s shirt. No point crying over spilled milk, literally.  The clean up cost you the last few

Choosing to have hope in the midst of pain

Choosing to have hope in the midst of pain

I debated writing this post. If not for any other reason, it’s this….transparency is not easy! And it’s especially not easy when our situation is still fresh or ongoing. Most times we are more inclined to share when we have gone through our experience and come out the other end victorious. But, even just making the decision to share in struggles somehow has the power to be comforting. Though this post is not about full disclosure, I felt lead to share this much. No one wants to feel pain!! As a Registered Nurse, I know it’s common knowledge that pain

Walking through the seasons of life

Walking through the seasons of life

The huge potted mums was lying on its side again.  Though larger than most, the plastic planter was no match for the strong winds and rain that were normal for this time of the year. Most of the beautiful red, yellow and orange leaves that had majestically crowned the tree tops were now lying in a bronze colored carpet on the ground. There weren’t enough leaves for the neighboring kids to frolic in but there was certainly enough to send my husband off to the local hardware store for a rake and recycling yard bags.  Yes, what was just a

Transform your day with five minutes in His presence

Transform your day with five minutes in His presence

Every night I sleep with my phone charging on my night stand as most people do.  When I awake in the mornings I usually spend a few minutes lying in bed thinking about the day ahead or reviewing the day before. On the mornings when I am not focused or intentional, I have a tendency to absent-mindedly reach for my phone.  Without much thought I proceed to scan through my emails or flip through my social feeds.  It doesn’t take long for me to realize what I am doing and I remind myself this is no way to start the

When God is Silent

When God is Silent

Think of the times you’ve had to leave home for an extended period of time, going off to school or perhaps even getting married. Some of the most comforting and reassuring words we can hear from our parents are these, “If you ever need anything, doesn’t matter day or night, just call, we’ll be here.” Even though there may be apprehension and probably some anxiety about the unknown,  somehow hearing those reassuring words help to make us feel calmer and less worried.  We know we can trust our parents’ words and that they will indeed be there for us.  Their

Depression, staring for a moment into it’s darkness

Depression, staring for a moment into it’s darkness

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”   Deuteronomy 31:8     Her outward appearance belied her forty-something years and her mismatched clothing hung on her like oversized sacks. I did a double take. Graying hair glared from underneath the faded out bronze hair dye, giving her hair a strange orange glow that was all too unnatural.  Dark circles sat heavily around hopeless eyes while her shoulders drooped with an obvious, yet invisible load. This wasn’t the woman I knew.  This person was unrecognizable to me.  She shuffled

Are there weeds in your heart?

Are there weeds in your heart?

Every spring as soon as the weather is tolerable, my husband gets out the gardening tools from the backyard shed. It’s gardening time! Time to pull up the weeds and prune the dead branches and shrubs left over from the harsh winter months. Then it is time to till the soil and mulch the garden beds before adding new annuals and even a few perennials. I find this process both tedious and tiresome and I have to admit I am more of a spectator than I am an active participant. Gardening just isn’t one of my strengths nor is it

Taking off the mask-moving through healing to your purpose

Taking off the mask-moving through healing to your purpose

I am going to tell you one of my secrets. Listen closely. “I am no where close to where I want to be.” There.  I said it. Now there’s no way for me to pretend I’m someone I’m not.  One thing I want to always portray to my readers and to you, my friends,  is this.   I want to be real.   You see,  I’m on a journey and though I may not be where I want to be, with God’s help, I’m sure headed in the right direction.  Of course there are days when I fall a few steps
